2017 Launch Night

2017 Launch Night

The grand opening of the 2017 for O2e was a great success.

It was a perfect chance for the O2e community to catch up whilst meeting some new faces who we’ll be supporting this year.

As ever, we kicked off the proceedings by presenting the cheques to our 2016 charities and heard from each charity with details of where and how the monies will be spent and make a difference.

Presenting Sarah and Rob with their cheque that will help SSDS children go from extraordinary to ordinary – works for us!

DD with Noel and Jayne from Sparkle.

JT with a cheque that Matt says funded a trial that proved successful.

Jane and Ollie with funds that will help support the next generation of disabled sports girls and boys.

Slatts with Dan and Freddie. The money helps 48 children at their rapidly developing centre.

A huge thanks to all who fundraised, supported and donated to O2e in 2016, enabling us to present our charities with a phenomenal £180,000.

Stepping Stones DS, Freddie Farmer Foundation and Sparkle have all been nominated again this year. Our three new charities proved equally energetic, passionate and ambitious with their speeches to the O2e faithful.

CASPA were nominated by O2e Ambassador, Lee McGinley, who, together with friends from Beckenham Rugby Club, wanted to support a local cause.

Helen spoke with energy and emotion, conveying the importance of their work and the positive impact it has on the lives of the children they support.

Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC) provide bikes for young people going through treatment for cancer. Rafe, O2e Ambassador, put the charity forward and Sarah proved why they will be such a great fit.

Sarah and Rafe hatching plans for 2017. We can’t wait to see kids on their O2e funded bikes!

ELHAP were represented by Rachel who told everyone how their adventure playground and facilities help develop confidence and interaction for the children they support. Put forward by committee member, Brett, Rachel and ELHAP epitomise what O2e is all about.

Rachel talks candidly about life working for ELHAP.

Each charity is excited to be opening their doors to O2e supporters and we are in the process of scheduling the 6 dates throughout the year. It will be brilliant to see the facilities first hand and meet the children and parents who benefit from O2e fundraising. Please look out for dates of these visits in upcoming newsletters.

Nira kindly donated one of her Christmas presents into a spontaneous raffle where people had to guess what was in the wrapped box. Using her endless charm, Nira raised £200 in guesses and Connor McGinley correctly identified the coffee maker machine. Thanks Nira and congratulations, Connor. But now you’ve got to make your dad a coffee every morning, right Lee?

Corporate Donation

O2e supporter, Rod Bird, kindly put us forward to his employer as a nomination for their chosen charities of 2017. Within a few days of 2017, we had a cheque for £10,000 from the lovely people at Brit Insurance! Couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year.

Time got the better of us during the evening so we had to leave out our usual event listings.

  • Details of Joe Webb’s O2e Juniors ride to Ypres can be found here.
  • Sign up and event information to Big Kev’s Ride 2017 will be sent out shortly. This year Kev’s taking us on the scenic route to Reims in the heart of the French champagne region.
  • Walk the World will be happening again in May so prepare yourselves for 100 miles on your feet!

Your Challenges

We want to add your O2e challenges(s) to our event calendar. Please email me with whatever event you’re taking part in and we’ll add it to our calendar. Please also send me any photos from your training and the event so we can celebrate your efforts and wish you good luck on our social channels. Ollie@O2e.org

Big thanks to Rash, Lexington Catering and Man for hosting our night. Another thanks goes to Guy who took on the role of photographer and also to Ben from Signwrite Studios for sponsoring and providing our new O2e pop up stand (and to Rob Martin for designing it!).

All the best for your 2017!
