Quick write up from Max on Running London
The London Marathon experience!
From the moment you Line up at the start until you stumble across the finishing line after a gruelling 26.2 miles the London Marathon is a truly unforgettable experience! However race day is only half the battle! The journey really starts when you get the confirmation email confirming your spot has been accepted for the big day, and that’s when training begins… due to the London Marathon being in April the majority of your training will be through the long cold winter months, and 2012-13 showing record low temperatures, getting up for those long weekend runs requires immense willpower and dedication; therefore setting a strict diet and training routine has proven essential if you want to complete the distance to the absolute best of your ability. Throughout the marathon campaign injury is always a concern, whether it is a recurring niggle or a new problem as a result of the endurance training it needs to be treated immediately and in the correct manor in order to give yourself the best possible chance come race day! However having said this, the crowd on the day are better than any doctor I have ever come across… The support you are given by both the fellow runners and the 1000’s lining the track will get you through, and give you that all important leg up when facing the runners wall, and knowing the end result is generating revenue for a fantastic cause is enough to spur you on even when you think the tank is showing empty! It is a day I will never forget, and couldn’t recommend highly enough to those considering taking on!
Many thanks Max.

Ollie has arranged some regular Box Hill climbs to get you ready for Big Kev’s Arch to Arc ( now up to 110 finely tuned athletes in tight tight lycra) Dates are 6th July, 14TH Sep and 16th Nov
The O2e Quarterly Climb is an opportunity to get together with your fellow O2e cyclists for a bit of hill training. It’s just a social, no fundraising required. Starting and finishing at Dorking Rail Station car park, the route is a 14 mile loop that takes in 2 very steep and arduous climbs (and spectacular descents!) including the now world famous Box Hill.
Depending on the number of participants and if necessary, we create 2 or 3 groups who each have their own pace. Again, depending on the attendance and weather, we’ll do two or three laps. On the final lap, we all meet top atop of Box Hill at the Café and have the cyclist’s customary coffee and cake while watching other cyclists fall off their shiny bikes when still clipped in. Then we shoot down the zig-zags back to the station car park.
We congregate at 0745 for an 8am start. Please come prepared for the classic British weather and as much mechanical bad luck as you can cope with. Everyone is welcome so bring your mates! Update 1/03/2013
Hi Team,
So we made it through the winter!!
More events coming in:
Event 18
Luke ‘ Tourettes ‘ is getting stuck into another monster mountain after seeing off Mont Blanc a couple of years ago and writes:
Unfortunately being such a cupid stunt, I’ve decided to try an re-enact my near-death experience of 2 years ago and have entered the JungFrau Marathon in Switzerland in Sept for O2E…it’s the only mountain marathon that I could find that looked worse than Mont Blanc…to be honest I wasn’t going to do anything this year but the chosen charities look awesome and the thought of Nick and the Welsh gang doing that ride is enough to stir anyone into action…that has to be the most extra-ordinary match up of human condition and physical challenge! J
Brilliant challenge mate and hope it starts with semi naked Haka like bike ride last year-top drawer event-you should know better!!
Event 19
Graham is off to the birthplace of Buddha ( not Upminster Big Kev ) and has signed up for a monster Cycle Challenge in the foothills of the Himalayas.
This is a 10 day trip and as you will imagine NOTHING about the journey will be flat, starting and finishing in Katmandu.
An amazing adventure awaits and wish you the trip of a lifetime and thanks for choosing to support O2e.
Graham is doing L2P as a warm up so you can find out more about his trip in Sep.
Best of luck mate.
Event 20
Speaking of L2P Fintan will be off out of the blocks ahead of Big Kev’s ride and is doing his own London to Paris and writes:
I am going to be cycling from London (Epsom Downs) to Paris during the four days of 23 to 26 May. The total distance is a testicle-shattering, eye-watering, heart-thumping, donation-encouraging 200+ miles, ending in a Cavendish-like sprint up the Champs Elysse! I am doing this to raise money for the charity O2e, which was set up by a friend of mine ( DD ) and encourages ordinary people (like me) to undertake extraordinary challenges (like this). Every penny donated will be used to help improve the lives of terminally ill and disabled children.
Brilliant challenge Fintan and best of luck in challenge ( and finding new friends!!!! )
Event 21
Dawn & Brett’s Epping Forest runs are back!!
19th May will see 10’s, no 100’s, no 1000’s……………. of runners lined up and YOU could be one of them-let me know if interested and I’ll put you in contact
