After much speculation, “Big (not so much these days) Kev” and his team are pleased to announce details of the O2e Ride for 2016.
We will be returning to the Emerald Isle, from Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th September 2016, taking in some of the rugged Wild Atlantic Way coastline of County Donegal for what promises to be a spectacular and memorable trip.
We have managed to overcome some difficult logistical issues and with the help of some local expertise from the McGinley clan, we have put together a fantastic package, to include, flights, bike transfer, four nights accommodation, breakfast AND evening meal, not to forget the usual service you have come to expect on Big Kev’s Ride – signposted route, feed stations, mechanical support and of course a personalised event cycling jersey.
The exact route details will be finalised over the coming months and as usual they will be recce’d by the O2e team, but expect a total of 250 to 300 miles over the 3 days, with parts on an exposed costal route.
The proposed details of the event are:
Before Wednesday 14th September 2016: Bikes and one luggage bag to be dropped to a collection point (likely to be one in Essex area and one in Beckenham area) where they will be loaded (fully assembled) onto special bike trailers and transported to Derry.
Day 1 – Wednesday 14th September 2016: Make your own way to London Stansted airport to catch flight departing at 06:55 AM – arriving in Derry at 08:20 AM. Clear airport formalities and collect bike waiting outside airport and commence Day 1 of the bike ride, taking in the most northerly point of mainland Ireland – Malin Head. The day one ride finishes in Letterkenny, our base for two nights. Your bags will be waiting there for you and evening meal is included.
Day 2 – Thursday 15th September 2016: Breakfast included. Cycle loop starting and finishing in Letterkenny. Stay in same Hotel, evening meal included.
Day 3 – Friday 16th September 2016: Breakfast included in the hotel. Cycle loop starting in Letterkenny and finishing in Ballybofey. Bags to be transported from Letterkenny to Ballybofey. Evening meal included at Ballybofey hotel.
Day 4 – Saturday 17th September 2016: Breakfast included in the hotel. Load bikes on to trailer where they will be taken back to UK by Road. Free day in Ballybofey, post-ride party in the evening, with food. Details to be confirmed later.
Day 5 – Sunday 18th September 2016: Breakfast included in the hotel, free morning in Ballybofey. Transfer to Derry Airport around 1 pm. Flight departs at 16:20 arriving back at Stansted at 17:45. Make own way home.
