London to Paris : 12th – 15th September
O2e’s 14th annual cycling challenge is a classic, two-day, 200-mile endurance epic.
Setting off from South London on the morning of Thursday 12th September we will head downhill through the beautiful heathlands and stunning South Downs National Park to the Ferry Port at Newhaven. After taking a not-that-luxurious cross channel sunset dinner time cruise on the DFDS sailing MS Côte d’Albâtre, we arrive in Dieppe at 22.30 local time where we overnight in a combination of the seafront Hotels Aguado & L’Europe, a 2km hop from the Ferry Port.
With the wind on our backs Friday morning we leave Dieppe. Once out of town we pick up the Route Vert, a 50km stretch of disused railway line that takes us all the way to Les-Forges-Eaux. Once back on the roads we head South East through the Seine Maritime and the undulating cycle-friendly French countryside, passing through numerous pretty towns & villages and onwards to our destination in central Paris.
Our finish line is La Grande Arche de la Défense on the North-West side of central Paris. The Grande Arche forms part of the Axe historique line of historical monuments and has a direct view to L’Arc de Triomphe (all the benefits of finishing at L`Arc without the hassle of dodging the Gallic drivers or being arrested or water cannoned by the Gendarmerie).
Our world-renowned team of road signers (accompanied by Alf) will have arrived the day before and prepared a stunning signed route for the group. The routes will also be available for download from our website.
Avril’s award winning support team will also be with you for the entirety, offering a vast selection of home-made goodies, tools, pumps, or simply encouragement when most needed.
During our time in Paris we stay at the 4 Star Novotel La Défense conveniently located yards from the finish line and adjacent to the RER station that will whisk you into the middle of town in just 10 minutes on the “A” line.
Once you have recovered on Friday night we will put on a typical O2e night to remember on Saturday. You will enjoy the unique camaraderie of celebrating your personal success of achieving the distance with some of the best people on the planet who will have just raised a bunch of cash for our deserving causes. Alternatively, you could spend the weekend trying to figure out where you parked your car, eh DD?
As always you, the participants, pay all the costs of staging the event so that 100% of donations go straight to making a difference in the lives of the extraordinary children we help. This years cost of £295 is a fraction of what other charities charge and we all know the O2e events take some beating………so get signed up, chat to friends, family & colleagues and get them signed up.
Let’s make 2019 the BIGGEST Kev’s Big Bike Ride yet!!!!!!!!!
