The Posse’s Welsh Weekend

It’s happening again! This time based in the medieval walled town of Abergavenny, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and surrounded by beautiful countryside.

As last year, arrive Friday evening, ride Saturday, a night out on Saturday evening, ride Sunday and then home.

Routes are planned in outline, with an easier option available for Saturday:

Saturday

Full ~65 miles, about 1800m ascent / Short ~55 miles, about 1200m ascent

The full course loops out from Abergavenny through the Black Mountains to Hay-on-Wye (not the same route as last year), then via Llangorse Lake, Llangynidr (spelling test later!) and Crickhowell (most famous for being the birthplace of Nick from the Posse!), back towards Abergavenny. Just short of Abergavenny the route takes us up the Tumble, a notorious climb in British road cycling, only about 6 kms but averaging around 10%, before dropping back down into Abergavenny for beer and applause!

The shorter option follows the same route, but avoids the Tumble, heading directly to the finish where the full course turns off for the big climb.

Sunday

This will be a relaxed cruise through the beautiful Welsh countryside, no major climbs, just a fun ride, about 45 miles with about 800m of total climbing (flat by Welsh standards!).

We’re planning great scenery, unbroken sunshine, and a picturesque stop at a local vineyard, before covering the last 6 or 7 miles together in one big peloton as we did last year.

And of course, the legendary Jamie’s BBQ will feature at some stage during the weekend!

Entry

We’ve managed to bring the cost down from the 2019 ride – £205 will secure your place for the 2020 event. As before, and well understanding the difficulty of raising sponsorship, we’ll ask you to add to this an O2e donation of £100 / £150 / £200, at your choice.

Your £205 entry fee includes 2 nights B&B accommodation at Abergavenny Premier Inn (shared room basis), lunch stop on both ride days, Saturday night out in Abergavenny (food not booze!), ride support / feed stops, and event t-shirt.

If you’re up for it, don’t waste this opportunity – we’re limited to 40 riders (might squeeze a few more in) and have had so much interest after the 2019 weekend’s success that we are sure that the 2020 event will be oversubscribed.

Big hugs from the Posse!
